The Challenge:
Giant Food Stores were looking for way to make shopping more convenient and easy for consumers. The goal of the easySHOP kiosk was to allow consumers to scan their own groceries, check prices, keep track of their total and bag their groceries while shopping. Creating the ultimate in convenience shopping.
Our Solution:
Frank Mayer & Associates, Inc. designed and produced a custom enclosure for Giant Food Stores. The kiosk was unique and mirrored the feel of the Giant Foods Shopping Solutions program. Designed to work within any area of the store, kiosks are subjected to many environmental conditions. Giant Foods also partnered with Agilysis, Inc. St. Clair Interactive Communications, Inc., IBM Corp. and Symbol Technologies to create a multi-application software and hardware to perform various functions in these kiosks located throughout the store.
How it works:The Giant Foods Easy Shop Program debuted in Camp Hill, PA at the Giant Super Food Store. Upon entering the store consumers simply scan their card at the easySHOP Station after scanning their card the scanner rack will light up, identifying which hand-held scanner to use.
The consumer takes the scanner along with some plastic shopping bags, attaches the scanner to the cradle on the shopping cart and begins shopping. While the consumer is shopping they simply select the item and scan the barcode, place in their bag and continue shopping.
Located throughout the store these Easy Shop Kiosks have various functions including:
- The BonusCard Center
- Party Planning
- Storewide Services
- Express Order
- Item Locator
- Recipe Solutions
When you have completed your shopping you just proceed to the easyShop self-checkout, scan the "End of Order" barcode at the easyShop checkout area, return the scanner and complete your transaction.
